SELECTION CRITERIA 2025/2026 season
A qualifying meeting is any league meeting that an athlete completed both the running and swimming legs.
If an athlete competed in a league meeting hosted by another province, the athlete must send a copy of the results to the Chairman before the Western Province Biathlon Championships.
SA BIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS Selection Criteria
Affiliated to Western Province Biathlon [Affiliation fees for the current season paid in full]
Under 9 to under 19
- At least 4 Biathlon meetings (can include Highgate Inter-Provincial and WP Champs)
- Team members per age group: Under 9 to Under 19: 6 boys and 6 girls
Juniors to Master 80+
- At least 2 Biathlon meetings (can include Highgate Interprovincial and WP Champs)
- Team members per age group: Junior to Master 80+: all above 1900 points [unlimited number of qualifying athletes]
INTERPROVINCIAL BIATHLON COMPETITIONS Selection Criteria
Affiliated to Western Province Biathlon [Affiliation fees for the current season paid in full]
All age groups
- At least one (1) Biathlon meeting during the current season
- To qualify for the “A” team status athlete must have scored at least 1900 points in a qualifying event
Team members per age group:
- Under 8 to Under 19: 15 boys and 15 girls
- Junior to Master 80+: unlimited number qualifying athletes
OTHER General Selection Citeria – u.8 to u.19
- First 4 athletes on seasons rankings
- Next 2 athletes on discretion of selectors
- If school’s team athlete is not selected based on above criteria, the athlete can be included in the school’s team for the Interprovincial or SA Biathlon Championships to enable the school to enter a full team
WESTERN PROVINCE BIATHLON COLOURS AND MERIT AWARDS
Awarding Western Province Biathlon Colours to an athlete:
To be awarded Western Province Biathlon Colours, an athlete must have represented Western Province Biathlon at the SA Biathlon Championships,thereby earning the right to purchase and wear the Western Biathlon clothing.
Western Province Biathlon Merit Award
To be awarded a Western Province Biathlon Colours merit award an athlete must have medalled at the SA Biathlon Championships (i.e. first, second or third place)
WESTERN PROVINCE BIATHLON COLOURS – HONORIS CAUSA
Awarding WP Honoris Causa Colours to an official:
To be awarded Western Province Biathlon Honoris Causa Colours, an official must serve at Western Province Biathlon meetings on a regular basis for at least 4 years.
Awarding WP Honoris Causa Colours to a committee member:
- To be awarded Western Province Biathlon Honoris Causa Colours, a committee member must serve on the Western Province Biathlon Committee for at least 4 years
- Team manager to SA Biathlon Championships (if away from home).
